Professor Dr. Ir. Gerrit Hoogenboom was appointed as Honorary Professor in the School of Agriculture of the University of Jordan in January 22, 2024, in recognition of his contributions to the field of crop modeling. Professor Gerrit Hoogenboom is also a Preeminent Scholar in the Global Food Systems Institute and Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, USA. From 2010 through 2015 he was the Director of the AgWeatherNet Program and Professor of Agrometeorology at Washington State University in Prosser, Washington, USA. Prior to 2010 he was Professor at the University of Georgia in Griffin, Georgia, USA. He has over 30 years of experience in research, education and outreach in agricultural and environmental engineering. He has specialized in the development and application of crop simulation models and decision support systems and he currently coordinates the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT), one of the most popular crop modeling systems across the world. He frequently facilitates international training workshops on crop modeling and decision support systems. He has published over 525 scientific papers in refereed journals as well as numerous book chapters and proceedings (h-index 103; i10-index 531; Citations 47,522 - Google Scholar). Since 2019, he is the Editor-in-Chief for The Journal of Agricultural Science (Cambridge); previously he was an Editor for the journals Climate Research, Scientia Agricola, and Agricultural Systems. In 2022, he was elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
